In 1926 Coco Chanel introduced the little black dress. Since then it has become the epitome of timeless fashion. It is always very chic and everyone wants to find the perfect one!
The first little black dress of Coco Chanel appeared in the American Vogue. It encouraged comparisons with Ford's shiny black car that was the must-have of the time. Vogue said that it would "become the sort of uniform for all women of taste".
Throughout the years many famous and important women have used it. In 1961 the first Lady Jackie Kennedy chose a sheath for a White House reception.
In 1966 Catherine Deneuve wore a mod version of the LBD created by YSL Rive Gauche. Lagerfeld says that in different interpretations the LBD has been able to follow fashion through different times and epochs.
In 2005 Halle Berry used another interpretation of the LBD. Lagerfeld says that today the LBD is like jeans."It is a wardrobe's essential element."
In 2006 Sofia Coppola used a LBD at one of the screenings of Marie Antoinette. She said that her first little black dress was a leather and lace Chanel that she used at her prom.
There are four types of the little black dress.
- The romantic or classic. Chiffon, lace, tulle, feathers, soft figures and accents that include bows or ruffles are the components of a very feminine LBD.
- The sophisticated. These pieces have architecture on the details and strong lines. They work the best for minimalists but can be fashionable with the right accessories.
- The sexy. Straps, pronounced necklines and tight to the body figures. You have to try to keep it tasteful!!!
- The bold. Asymmetric necklines, short hems, details on the straps, rhinestones, leather. These elements can make the LBD look very cool.
The assignment of the day was to create a complete look using the little black dress. I created two different ones.
